The garden club last visited Wildside on a sunny day, 3rd June 2021. See https://www.bridfordandteignvalleygardenclub.co.uk/copy-of-wildside-buckland-monachorum
It was wet this year, but it did not spoil our fascination with the work done on this brilliant project. In her round-up of a previous visit, Hibly said: “The garden, created from a flat field by Keith and Ros Wiley, is a testament to what can be done with a clear vision and a digger.” How true. In the five years since, the garden has matured to a great extent; previously rough areas are now filled with planned plantings, shrubs, and trees, as well as what nature has added on its own.
One themed area leads to another, through twisting paths, leaving us not knowing what would be found around the corner.
To quote Keith Wiley, “Nature presents us with a treasure trove of gardening ideas, whether under our very noses, or in far-flung corners of the globe. By allowing our observations of natural landscapes to inform our plantings, I believe we can loosen the strait-jacket that long-established horticultural practices impose on us, allowing the enormous creative potential, latent within most of us, the freedom to express itself “.
