At the end of April we visited Stonelands House near Dawlish. Eighteen of us were expertly guided around the gardens by Saul Walker, the head gardener. It is a beautiful 12 acre 'pleasure garden' surrounding an early nineteenth century house originally designed by John Nash. There are many mature specimen trees, shrubs and rhododendrons with a large formal lawn, herbaceous beds and a vegetable garden. We also enjoyed the woodland garden and the orchard with a wildflower meadow and a riverside walk. The weather was perfect and our thanks go to Saul Walker for a very enjoyable afternoon.
