Tuesday 6th June was a lovely early summer’s afternoon when 29 members visited two gardens in Trusham, ‘Glen View’ and ‘Rosedale’.

‘Glen View’ is the home of Helen and Peter Harding, who welcomed us in to see their well appointed herbaceous flower beds with fox gloves, red hot pokers, sweet peas, pinks, a rhododendron and more. There was a raised fish pond with goldfish, a greenhouse with tomatoes, a productive veg and soft fruit patch and new planting of alternate copper beech and ordinary beech hedging. Their patio had numerous pots beautifully planted up.

‘Rosedale’ is the home of Jean Browning, a member of our garden club. This garden was created over 20 years by Jean and her deceased husband, Alan, who did much of the landscaping, including constructing a pleasing
fish pond. There is a greenhouse with tomatoes, a herbaceous flower bed with poppies, Oxeye daisies and cornflowers. The front garden has flower beds containing established shrubs and herbaceous plants with far reaching views across the Teign Valley towards Canonteign and Hennock. Jean also has an allotment situated in the field behind the property, planted with flowers and some veg. The patio had a number of colourful pots containing plants.
After viewing the gardens, we took tea with delicious home baked cakes sitting on the patio at ‘Rosedale’. It was a most enjoyable afternoon’s visit to two most attractive and colourful local gardens, our thanks go to Helen, Peter and Jean for their kind hospitality.
